Specially today, I would like to share about “Embrace the Holy Month of Ramadhan: Teaching and Fasting with Your Toddler & Preschooler“. What a lovely moment to share with your precious baby, toddler, preschooler and the rest of the family.
Sincerely for me, Ramadhan is more than fasting month. What is crucially important, is to appreciate the reasons behind the fasting, what those reasons denote and what this means to fasting Muslims. It includes: positive behavior, fasting, prayers, charity, Quran time with family, family bonding, appreciation to others and lots more. It’s the best time to cultivate your wonderful kids regarding Islamic education. Insya-Allah~
Alhamdulillah, for this year, KiruaMi-cHan’s still didnt miss his fasting day, ReiHi-cHan’s missed 1 day and YunaFi-cHan’s managed to fast for 4 full days. Honestly, my kids start their journey of fasting since their age of 30 months. E.g: (2 and 1/2 years: target = 5 days, 3 and 1/2 years: target = 15 days, 4 and 1/2 years 25 days/full month).
My tips is simple: encourage them to fast for a few hours a day during Ramadan in their early childhood day.
Indeed they can possibly do it! You’ll be amazed with your kids 😉

- Introduce Story-Telling about Fasting Month
There is nothing I love more than reading with my kids. During Ramadan I read books to help them in their understanding of the holiday and of the Islamic religion. Do start early. Sharing great prophets & friends stories and related with your kids daily life. Please make it exciting and fun. They’ll be truly enjoyed 🙂
- Let your Kids Notice the Purpose
Before your kids start their vey first fasting day. Let them understand the purpose & reason. Do remind and motivate them upon the secret behind Ramadhan.
- Bring your kids to Mosque
We love to accompany our dear kids to mosque as weekly routine. A concept becomes real and meaningful to children when they observe it rather than directly read or watch from TV/Internet.
Did you know?:
The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w used to bring his grandchildren Hassan and Hussein to the mosque as toddlers before they knew how to pray.
- Appreciate their Feedback & Passion and Have Fun!
Talk about their emotions & feelings. Let them know relationship of body and mind. Praise their hard work with your hugs and kisses ^0^ Please do show your child that you love them, regardless of how they perform. As every child is unique & let their progress at their own pace.
- Distract them with LOTs of FUN activities
Make Ramadhan arts & craft activities. Moon & star gazing. Collecting pebbles & sticks for Eid cards decoration. They’ll surely forget about their thirst & hunger. Let them take several time-out.
- Cooked their Favorite Food
Enjoy your day cooking with your lil ones their favorite food as reward for their great behavior. They will feel a sense of accomplishment when they see they see what a delicious feast they have helped to prepare to break the day’s fast.
I hope you’ll make this Ramadan as introductory of a note-worthy and long-lasting training experience for you and your lil angel. Amin~
