Gardening with Toddler and Preschooler
Post by MamaFiza on October 2, 2009
Good morning lovable mommies
Wish you’re in marvelous condition. Amin~
Do you like to garden?
I love to garden and plant things, and for us anytime is a great time to get started!
How about helping your child plan and plant a garden?
Yes (A-Z), from preparing the soil, selecting the plants, planting seeds or transplants, watching them grow to finally harvesting the “crops”. With no doubt, gardening is a great family bonding time
Note: Do remember, young children love to touch, and fingers often end up in their mouths, so organic and pesticide-free plants are safest.
So today topic: Gardening & Watering with Toddler and Preschooler >_<
Toddlers and preschoolers are extremely curious by nature, and constantly wanting to learn new things and take on new challenges.

My boy: KiruMi-cHan! Good job bro ^-^
Oh yes, sometimes, it might be difficult to imagine your lil ones gardening or even interested in it. Don’t stop there, firstly do talk to your children about your love of gardening, and why you do what you do.
Believe me, once they become engaged in gardening, there may be no stopping them ^0^

Big bro KiruaMi-cHan in action ^-^
Did You Know?
Pond water can be used to water other plants in the garden, therefore conserving water by eliminating the use of the garden hose. Simply dip a watering can into the pond to care for other plants and trees throughout the yard.
Below is new video from our kids *Alhamdulillah*:
Watering a Garden is FUN
Note: Please click here if you can’t view the above video.
Why Need to Start Gardening with Your Child?
- Early Experience in Nature – Inspire your child to fascinate and curiosity about the natural world around them, and the importance of the Earth plus green environment.
- Develop Self-Responsibility – Allowed your child to plant the items that interest him/her, they may feel a responsibility to maintain those plants.
- Learning & Bonding Time – If gardening is important to you, then it may already be important to your child. Ensure that children understand why it is important to garden, and why organic practice is the best practice.
How to Start?
- Start early as possible and start with small tasks. Keep gardening times short. Break it all up with different activities and present it in a fun way.
- Educate your children about using gardening to be “eco-friendly” by talking/discussing/watching related movie/documentary. Task to reveal to your child:
- Talk to your toddler about gardening basics.
- The names of the flowers and vegetables you are going to plant.
- Why seeds need to be sown.
- How plants develop from seeds.
- How flowers develop from buds.
- How sunlight affects plant growth.
- Why plants must be watered.
- How to know when a vegetable is ripe for picking.
- Why butterflies are attracted to flowers.
- How the weather affects plants.
- Equip with their own gardening tools.
- Praise their hard-work & victories with your hugs & kisses. When a vegetable is ripe, show your toddler how to pick it. Your child will discover how fun and rewarding it is to maintain a vegetable garden. Plus, you are saving money and he/she is eating healthy. Time to make homemade salad fiesta!

Embrace the Holy Month of Ramadhan: Teaching and Fasting with Your Toddler & Preschooler (Sponsored by GroomyRoom)
Post by MamaFiza on September 9, 2009
This is Sticky Post (48 hours) . Kindly scroll down for our latest post. TQ >_<
——————————————————–
Note: This article is brought to you proudly by our significant sponsor: Miss Siti, the owner of (GroomyRoom) for her loves in children’s Islamic education plus her enthusiasm in stylish signature hijab for modern muslimah.
Specially today, I would like to share about “Embrace the Holy Month of Ramadhan: Teaching and Fasting with Your Toddler & Preschooler“. What a lovely moment to share with your precious baby, toddler, preschooler and the rest of the family.
Sincerely for me, Ramadhan is more than fasting month. What is crucially important, is to appreciate the reasons behind the fasting, what those reasons denote and what this means to fasting Muslims. It includes: positive behavior, fasting, prayers, charity, Quran time with family, family bonding, appreciation to others and lots more. It’s the best time to cultivate your wonderful kids regarding Islamic education. Insya-Allah~
Alhamdulillah, for this year, KiruaMi-cHan’s still didnt miss his fasting day, ReiHi-cHan’s missed 1 day and YunaFi-cHan’s managed to fast for 4 full days. Honestly, my kids start their journey of fasting since their age of 30 months. E.g: (2 and 1/2 years: target = 5 days, 3 and 1/2 years: target = 15 days, 4 and 1/2 years 25 days/full month).
My tips is simple: encourage them to fast for a few hours a day during Ramadan in their early childhood day.
Indeed they can possibly do it! You’ll be amazed with your kids

Me with my favorite hijab ^-^
Below is special video from my kids and I, dedicated to our Ramadhan Journal 2009 via our new YouTube channel: LittleKittleTV
Note: Please click here if you can’t view the above video.
- Introduce Story-Telling about Fasting Month
There is nothing I love more than reading with my kids. During Ramadan I read books to help them in their understanding of the holiday and of the Islamic religion. Do start early. Sharing great prophets & friends stories and related with your kids daily life. Please make it exciting and fun. They’ll be truly enjoyed
- Let your Kids Notice the Purpose
Before your kids start their vey first fasting day. Let them understand the purpose & reason. Do remind and motivate them upon the secret behind Ramadhan.
- Bring your kids to Mosque
We love to accompany our dear kids to mosque as weekly routine. A concept becomes real and meaningful to children when they observe it rather than directly read or watch from TV/Internet.
Did you know?:
The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w used to bring his grandchildren Hassan and Hussein to the mosque as toddlers before they knew how to pray.
- Appreciate their Feedback & Passion and Have Fun!
Talk about their emotions & feelings. Let them know relationship of body and mind. Praise their hard work with your hugs and kisses ^0^ Please do show your child that you love them, regardless of how they perform. As every child is unique & let their progress at their own pace.
- Distract them with LOTs of FUN activities
Make Ramadhan arts & craft activities. Moon & star gazing. Collecting pebbles & sticks for Eid cards decoration. They’ll surely forget about their thirst & hunger. Let them take several time-out.
- Cooked their Favorite Food
Enjoy your day cooking with your lil ones their favorite food as reward for their great behavior. They will feel a sense of accomplishment when they see they see what a delicious feast they have helped to prepare to break the day’s fast.
I hope you’ll make this Ramadan as introductory of a note-worthy and long-lasting training experience for you and your lil angel. Amin~
